Alex Ramsey is a licensed acupuncturist offering acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Nerja and across the eastern Axarquía, helping people support their health and well-being naturally. Trained at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in the UK, where he studied both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Five Element Acupuncture, Alex holds a BSc (Hons) in Acupuncture and practises as an overseas member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and a member of COFENAT, the Association of Natural Therapists in Spain.
His route into the profession was personal. Daily recurring severe headaches led him to acupuncture treatment, and the effect was so profound that he decided to train as an acupuncturist himself so he could help others improve their health in a natural way too. That journey took him from PADI Scuba Diving Instructor across oceans and continents to a practice in Nerja, where he has family and is now a resident — improving his Spanish in between treatments.
Alex’s approach is complementary rather than alternative. Western medicine and TCM look at health from different angles, and when combined they can be remarkably effective: Western medicine excels at diagnosing conditions and providing targeted interventions, while acupuncture and other TCM practices work to address the underlying imbalances that contribute to physical and emotional symptoms. Together, they offer a holistic path to recovery and long-term wellbeing. As he puts it, the body has an amazing capacity for healing when given the opportunity to be well balanced.
Treatments are tailored to the individual. A first appointment includes a full health history, current symptoms, lifestyle and treatment goals, so that individual needs are properly taken into account before treatment begins. Most people experience little or no discomfort — often just warmth, tingling, heaviness or a mild ache around a needle — and the needles are typically left in place for 20–30 minutes while you relax. Sessions are available at clinics in Nerja, at your home across the Nerja, Torrox, Caleta de Vélez, Torre del Mar and Vélez-Málaga area, and at Centro Médico La Malagueta in Málaga, where Alex has been invited to join the team supporting their patients.
